How does marking photos on web and mobile work?

You take a photo on site and immediately see what's wrong. A misplaced pipe, a crack, a deviation from the drawing. You point it out with an arrow or circle, so no one has to guess what you mean. This already worked on mobile. Now it also works on web.

What has changed?

You could already mark photos in a ticket with arrows, circles and annotations on mobile. That same feature now also works in the web version of Ed Controls, in exactly the same way. You can use this on new photos, as well as on photos that were already added to a ticket earlier.

Why is this useful?

Prefer working from a laptop rather than your phone? Then you no longer need to switch to mobile to point something out on a photo. You simply do it in the web environment where you're already working. Prefer working from the site with your phone? Then everything stays exactly as you know it.

When do you use this?

On both platforms, anywhere you already add photos:

  • When creating a new ticket
  • When replying to an existing ticket
  • As an attachment to a question in an audit
  • As an attachment to an audit

How to do it on web

  1. Open a ticket or audit with a photo, or upload a new photo.
  2. Click the photo to open it.
  3. Choose the edit icon to open the annotation tools.
  4. Add an arrow, circle or marking at the spot you want to point out.
  5. Not quite right? Use undo/redo to adjust your marking.
  6. Save the photo once the marking looks right.

How to do it on mobile

  1. Open a ticket or audit with a photo, or take a new photo.
  2. Tap the photo to open it.
  3. Tap the edit icon to open the annotation tools.
  4. Add an arrow, circle or marking at the spot you want to point out.
  5. Not quite right? Use undo/redo to adjust your marking.
  6. Save the photo once the marking looks right.

On both platforms, you can keep adjusting for as long as you like, until the moment you save. After that, the marked photo is visible in the ticket, also for colleagues viewing it on the other platform.

Good to know

The size and quality of your photo stay the same after adding a marking, on both web and mobile. So there's no need to worry about a photo becoming blurry or larger because you pointed out a detail.

Prefer to re-upload a photo instead of marking it? That's still possible too. Annotating is an extra option, not a required step.
