Data protection as top priority

Unica chose SecurEd as a standalone solution within their project management because of the need for high data confidentiality. Geert-Paul from Unica explains: "The main reason is the confidentiality of the project." In addition to this security need, Unica also appreciated the simplicity and user-friendliness of Ed Controls, as well as the familiarity of the system to employees, subcontractors and clients. An added plus was Ed Controls' willingness to implement specific Unica requirements, such as excluding GPS tracking and limiting photo transfers to other systems, which Geert-Paul said was "a customer-driven requirement."

Additional security measures within a virtual environment

For Unica, the addition of additional security measures made a critical difference in ensuring confidentiality. Thanks to the virtual work environment in SecurEd. sensitive data, such as tickets created and associated photos, can only be shared within this environment. Geert-Paul emphasizes that "it is essential that the data captured in Ed Controls cannot be shared with the outside world." Because of this virtual security, all information remains strictly within the project environment.

Standalone configuration with intuitive user experience

One notable feature of SecurEd that Unica found particularly useful is its standalone configuration, which offers the same intuitive interface as standard Ed Controls without concessions in user experience. "For the user in the field, there is no difference in using Ed Controls (standard or SecurEd)." The user only needs to log in with special login credentials that are different from their regular login credentials.

Cooperation with Ed Controls was smooth and effective; Unica appreciated the partnership and support during the preparation and implementation of the secure environment. "The collaboration to arrive at this solution was very satisfying for us," said Geert-Paul. During the kick-off of the project, the way of working with SecurEd was clearly aligned, including the creation and handling of tickets, which could only be done via synchronized wired tablets within the virtual stand-alone ''wired'' working environment. So not wireless, in order to optimally protect the data.

Cooperation with Ed Controls

In terms of integration with existing workflows, Unica noted some limitations. Since information from SecurEd is only accessible on site and within the virtual environment, photos and floor plans cannot be sent to other systems. Geert-Paul indicates that this was known in advance: "It was known to us at the start of the project that we could not use the information in SecurEd in our existing processes and workflows." This was considered an acceptable compromise, given the increased data protection provided by the standalone solution.

Limitations in workflows and integration

Although the use of SecurEd had some impact on efficiency because of the location-based access to data, Unica saw this as a necessary trade-off. "The efficiency of using SecurEd due to only being able to make the tickets available onsite is a lot less than using Ed Controls' standard solution." Still, the increased security outweighs this loss in efficiency.

Efficiency versus security

Unica is convinced of SecurEd 's security benefits and is considering its application to future projects requiring confidentiality. For regular projects without specific security requirements, however, the standard Ed Controls solution remains the preferred choice.
