In one of the oldest trades we know, the construction sector has provided us with our most valuable buildings. From the comfort of our own homes to the greatness of Big Ben, we have all benefited from the hard graft of construction workers.
So, why is it that an industry which has given us so much, is suffering in silence? Recent statistics show that almost a quarter of construction workers are considering leaving the industry in the next 12 months due to poor mental health.

Nominate your colleague to receive a token of appreciation
Ask a colleague how they are feeling.
If someone tells you they are having a hard time, don’t joke, listen.
Use resources available at Lighthouse Club. And become aware of the warning signs of a person struggling.
Facts
Anxiety and depression are more common than musculoskeletal injuries on construction site.
In 2017, Randstad reporting showed that 34% of construction workers surveyed have experienced a mental health condition in the last 12 months, and that 73% felt that their employers do not recognise the early signs of mental health problems.
In 2020 a staggering 21,000 cases of work related stress, depression and anxiety were reported– that is a 50% increase in just 2 years. This is only diagnosed cases, the actual figure is expected to be much greater.
